Episode Description
Alex Hutchinson writes “Endurance is the struggle to continue against a mounting desire to stop.” In his book “Endure,” he explores what makes us able to push our limits of pain, muscle, oxygen, heat, thirst, fuel. What makes our performance so elastic, and what is the driving force when we break our seemingly physical barriers?
Dr. Risk’s Thoughts
Interviewing an author on physical endurance may seem off topic for this show, but when I read Alex’s book, I loved it. I took any example he gave for physical endurance, and compared it to what I went through in my health journey with Lyme. Pushing past my own limits to get up in the morning took the same capacity as someone running a marathon. Understanding these physical and mental limits gives huge insight into where we all are in our health journey’s and why it’s so important for us to listen to our bodies. Even if you’re not an athlete, endurance is still in your daily life.
