Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne illness in North America. Lyme disease is caused by an infection with the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, which are carried by deer ticks. The bacteria are transmitted when a tick bites a person.
It is a common believe among the medical community that the only effective Lyme disease treatment is through administering antibiotics. This however, is not so. There is a way to treat infectious diseases using natural anti-bacterial remedies.
Dr. Rebecca Risk treats patients using Chinese medicine, natural herbs and supplements, and her self is a Lyme disease survivor. She has suffered with Lyme for over 13 years and ultimately found answers through treating the disease naturally with herbs.
Her story began like many other Lyme survivors – with a failure of western physicians to diagnose her mysterious symptoms. This resulted in endless attempts to get a diagnosis with western medical system. Many tests that were performed showed nothing concrete. Western physicians either told her that her symptoms were not real, or suspected various other conditions that were similar symptomatically, but in reality had nothing to do with the cause of her illness. Finally, after many years of searching, she received a positive diagnosis from a integrative medical doctor, who discovered that she had a Lyme infection.
She had a very bad reaction to the traditional Lyme disease treatment using antibiotics. Being a Chinese Medical Doctor, Dr. Risk decided to find natural, less harsh alternatives to the traditional treatment protocol. She wanted to find something that would allow her to treat the disease without being incapacitated by the side effects.
After a lot of research she settled on one particular herbal protocol made by Dr. William Lee Cowden. She has treated her-self using this protocol and successfully recovered from Lyme infection within 1.5 years of starting the treatment (typical treatment of chronic Lyme disease using antibiotics takes anywhere from 2-4 years). This protocol also helped her recover from the co-infections that are so common with this disease.
Since the time of her own treatment, Dr. Risk has modified parts of the protocol to customize the treatment plan for each of her patients. She also uses Chinese Medicine to compliment the treatment and make it more effective.
