Other symptoms include:
- Insomnia or other sleep disorders.
- Sensitivity to sounds, lights, smells, and temperature fluctuations and pressures. Fibromyalgia sufferers’ nervous systems may interpret these things as pain.
- Problems with thermal regulation may lead to body temperature fluctuation, causing you to feel hot or cold.
- Clumsiness from a lack of proper sensory feedback.
- Fibromyalgia patients also commonly complain of depression, anxiety, headaches, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Because many of the predominantly female patients complain of depression, it is not unusual for Fibromyalgia patients to be treated with anti-depressants. Doctors, unable to find a source of their illness may treat the sufferer for psychological problems. Misdiagnosis is common, leaving many patients with frustration and suffering. Untreated, Fibromyalgia symptoms can be devastating.
Even when Fibromyalgia is diagnosed, Western medicine has no effective Fibromyalgia treatment. Insomnia is common among Fibromyalgia patients, so sleeping medications are frequently prescribed. Exercise, pain medications and, growth hormone injections are among common treatments.
Fibromyalgia Treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine:
In our Calgary Fibromyalgia Clinic we use Chinese Medicine as an alternative for effective Fibromyalgia treatment. Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnoses each patient individually, to ensure that the treatment caters to their specific needs. In TCM theory, Fibromyalgia may be diagnosed as one of several patterns, with similar symptomology. It is up to your practitioner to diagnose your specific pattern effectively and provide you with the herbs and treatments which will be of most benefit for you specifically.
Electro-dermal testing is another tool at our disposal. Using a Meridian Stress Assessment technique we can effectively diagnose as well as treat most symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia. This tool also allows for proper selection and effectiveness testing of supplements and herbs – a great way to find out if a certain supplement is going to be effective prior to taking it. Together, acupuncture, and herbal medicine provide a powerful Fibromyalgia treatment protocol for our patients diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Our patients often use acupuncture for pain control, once or twice a week, which can be an effective complementary treatment. Herbs help to treat the underlying pattern, strengthening the internal organs, and helping the body to fight the problem.
